KickStart Breakfast

Over 100,000 breakfasts each week

Fonterra and Sanitarium partnered in February 2009 to provide a free school breakfast of Anchor milk and Weet-Bix to all New Zealand schools. The NZ Government joined as a supporter in May 2013 which enabled the programme to be extended from two days to five and it was opened up to all schools decile 1 – 10. More than 100,000 breakfasts are served each week in over 800 schools that run their own KickStart Breakfast club.

Working alongside Creative Organism, we have built the entire administration, reporting and technology business processes for Fonterra staff, delivery franchisees, and school/parent coordinators with a school login area and public website. It has worked so well, it was extended by us to be used for the national rollout of Fontera Milk for Schools nationwide as well.

Symfony powers all systems

The robust Symfony framework underpins KickStart Breakfast online web systems and processes, with a database giving full audit history of changes made. This online tool saves the administrators hours of manual labour using spreadsheets and automates many of the processes behind managing the product for schools and the school relationship with KickStart Breakfast.

Fonterra Milk for Schools

In late 2011, Fonterra announced the plan to offer free milk everyday to all primary school aged children in New Zealand. We competitively pitched for the job using a similar system to KickStart Breakfast and were selected to build the systems behind Fonterra Milk for Schools on a short timeframe. It has worked extremely well.

We built a fully automated on-boarding process that integrated with Google Calendar for all of the ex-teachers Fonterra hired to visit every school personally. This automated the process of scheduling appointments with principals and co-ordinators at the schools, rolling it out in regional batches, ensuring that no school or communication was missed.

The programme is now providing Anchor milk to 170,000 students each school day. You can read more about the full history we were involved with here. An impressive project by Fonterra, and great to be part of it.

"Through Brooke’s understanding of his clients needs he not only brings technical experience to the table but also provides valuable direction and guidance. He is approachable, professional and fun to work with."
Linda Freudenberger, previous Programme Co-ordinator, Fonterra
